De tout temps, les jouets ont tenté de reproduire en miniature l’environnement du monde adulte. Les voitures miniatures ont ainsi connu un bel essor dès la naissance de l’automobile. Très vite ces miniatures ont arboré les publicités de leur époque.
Difficile de dire quel fabricant de jouets (au 1/43ème) a été le premier à sortir des fourgons avec des publicités pour des tiers, on peut penser à CD en France.
et à Dinky toys avec ses séries 28 d’avant guerre.
Après guerre, d’autres fabricants comme Chad valley, CIJ, Corgi toys, Gama, JRD, Marklin, Solido, Tekno, notamment, ont mis des fourgons publicitaires à leur catalogues (les experts les appellent des codes 1).
Entre les années 1950 à 1980, des industriels ont commandé aux fabricants de jouets des fourgons aux couleurs de leur marque qu’on a coutume d’appeler des “promotionnels” qui n’étaient distribués que par les commanditaires (les experts les appellent des codes 2).
L’un des meilleurs spécialistes des miniatures au 1/43 ème a consacré de nombreux articles sur ces promotionnels
En outre, des amateurs souvent talentueux, ont créé leurs propres modèles sur des bases existantes (les experts les appellent des codes 3).
Avec la délocalisation de la fabrication vers la Chine, on a observé une inflation des reproductions de fourgons Ciroen H, Peugeot D3A, Renault 1000 kg et Estafette, Austin, Morris Minor, Bedford, DKW Schnellmaster, Volkswagen Combi… commanditées par des marques de jouets comme Lledo, Minichamps, Norev, Premium, Schüco ou par des éditeurs comme Atlas.
